Student Poster Solicitation

The Alaska Public Health Association (ALPHA) is soliciting Student Posters for its 35th Alaska Health Summit, to be held at the Captain Cook Hotel in Anchorage, Alaska on January 16-18, 2018.  These posters will be featured in a special session dedicated to student posters related to work completed by the student(s) during the 2015-2016 or 2016-2017 academic years.  Only students who were enrolled in an academic program through the Fall Semester 2017 may exhibit their posters and discuss their work at the session.  The posters will be judged by a conference committee at the Health Summit and awards will be given to the top three student posters.

ALPHA will accept proposals for the posters from September 6 through October 20 on-line at Notification of acceptance will be sent to students by November 15, 2017

The Criteria for poster submission are as follows:

  • The poster must present original work by the student during the 2015-2016 or the 2016-2017 academic years.
  • The student may submit only one poster as the lead author.
  • As the lead author of the poster, the student must have performed the major portion of the work.
  • Lead authors may be full-time or part-time graduate or undergraduate students registered during the 2015-2016, 2016-2017 academic years, or Fall Semester 2017
  • Posters can be no larger than 48 by 60 inches.
  • The author must be present at the poster display during the judging session on Tuesday (January 16) afternoon.
  • Proposal submission deadline is Friday, October 20, 2017 at 5:00 pm ADT.

Awards will be presented during the Awards Banquet on Thursday, January 18, 2018. 

Here is the information that will be required in the proposal. 

  • Title:  The proposal title should be as brief as possible but long enough to clearly indicate the nature of the project.
  • Lead Author Information:

  • Additional author(s), for each:

  • Proposal text:
    • The proposal must be written as one paragraph.  It should briefly explain the background of the study, methods used, results, conclusions and impacts to the health of the targeted audience/group.
    • It should be no more than 350 words (1700 characters).
    • It must not contain citations.
    • All acronyms should be spelled out and defined upon first usage unless well known.
